EWL hosts successful Roundtable event, ’More Than Lip Service’
[Brussels, 11 July 2013] The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) would like to inform you about the successful Roundtable event held on the 10th of July at the European Parliament under the title "More than Lip Service? Practicing Gender Parity and Diversity in the EU Institutions", with the aim of discussing the tools that can be used to move to more concrete actions to promote gender parity in the decision-making sphere of the EU. At the same time, the official launch of the 50/50 Campaign “No Modern Democracy without Gender Equality” websiteand the EWL European Political Mentoring Network’s (EPMN) blogtook place, and they were used as examples of the aforementioned tools that can be used to disseminate the message of gender equality.
You too can be part of the 5050 Campaign by signing the Joint Declaration and disseminating the 5050 campaign website to all of your networks!
The website serves as a focal point for all actions, events and conferences taking place across the EU in regard of gender parity and diversity ahead of the elections in 2014.
The attendees of the event, including newly elected Maltese MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino, and long standing supporters of the EWL, MEPs Zita Gurmai, Kartika Liotard, Marian Harkin and Marusya Lyubcheva, representatives of the EWL and other organisations, mentees of the EPMN, and civil society members, engaged to a highly productive dialogue that, we hope, was rewarding for all parties involved. The variety and diversity of the voices and opinions heard were the driving forces of the discussion and the reason why the event was a success, symbolically re-affirming the main argument of the project: diversity of voices in the decision-making leads to more equal, inclusive, fair and efficient democracy.
The EWL would like to thank all the participants for their contribution and congratulate them for their strong commitment in promoting gender equality in the EU.
