Launch of European Network of Migrant Women
EWL Project ’Equal Rights, Equal Voices’ culminates in launch of new network
Three and a half years after the EWL seminar ‘Equal Rights. Equal Voices. Migrant women in the European Union’, migrant women’s organisations are meeting again in Brussels on 18 June 2010 to officially launch the European Network of Migrant women. Many of the organisations now members of the network met for the first time at the January 2007EWL seminar. At the time, besides agreeing on many policy recommendations to ensure migrant women’s rights in Europe, these organisations also decided it was time to directly address policy-makers at the European level. This wish was taken up by the EWL, since then working with them towards this ambitious but crucial goal in a European context where migrants’ voices are barely heard by the media and policy-makers.
The European Network of Migrant women, an EWL associate member since 2009, will present at their launch event the work they have undertaken together since 2007 at the national and European level in partnership with the European Women’s Lobby. This will also be the occasion to highlight the contribution of migrant women’s organisations to integration at the national level and to discuss policies with a panel of high-level European policy-makers. See here the full programme of the seminar of 18th June 2010. To register, please send an email by June 14th to fates@womenlobby.org.

All these achievements would not have been possible without the support of the Foundations that believed in the project since 2006 i.e. the Sigrid Rausing Trust, the Barrow Cadbury Trust and the EPIM Programme of the Network of European Foundations.
