Administrative elections at the Italian Coordination of the European Women’s Lobby
[Rome, 27 April 2011] The Italian Coordination of the European Women’s Lobby, which represents Italy within the European Women’s Lobby, the largest platform of associations, groups and women’s movements at European Union level, in the forthcoming local elections invites the Secretariats of the parties:
- to respect and implement the Article 51 and Article 117 of the Italian Constitution; to give actual effectiveness and visibility of the equal representation of women in provincial and municipal electoral roll
- to ensure, also, the effectiveness of participation of the women candidates in the electoral contest, through proper placement on the lists, likely to make substantial presence and not merely cosmetic.
The Italian Coordination of the European Women’s Lobby wishes to address this request in mind and stressing that the achievement of parity democracy at the level of local government is included in the broader commitment to the policy of the European Commission with the adoption of the Charter for Women in March 2010 and the Strategy for equality between women and men in 2010-15.
