[Brussels, 29 October 2014] On 21st October 2014, the European Women’s Lobby held its first breakfast training to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) on women’s rights and gender equality. The training was highly successful and gathered 7 MEPs and 4 parliamentary assistants from 4 political groups.
This first EWL’s breakfast training is the starting point of the innovative project “Young women leaders are voices for girls & women” , which was funded through the crowd-funding platform Catapult.

“The training with young women leaders was a very inspiring experience: we had the opportunity to present the voice of women’s organisations, to exchange on the challenges we face today, and give ideas for them to become leaders in women’s rights. The parliamentarians who joined the meeting were interested and seemed to clearly see, after the training, how they put our proposals into practice, and reinforce the gender equality perspective in their work. As a trainer, I really enjoyed this experience and felt that the women leaders left the session with a great sense of empowerment. I hope to have the opportunity to do more sessions to broaden the number of leades supporting our work and bringing our voice to concrete action at European level.”Pierrette Pape, EWL Policy Officer and Policy Coordinator, delivered the training
“This was a great opportunity to engage with women MEPs from across parties and countries to discuss the remaining challenges with respect to inequality between women and men in the EU. The MEPs were attentive and engaged and welcomed the opportunity to learn and to interact with one another. The quality of the training offered was excellent: interactive and practical. I am looking forward to organising the next one!”Joanna Maycock, EWL Secretary General
