[London, 4 June 2013] The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) was invited by the Kering Foundation to attend the #ChimeForChange concert organized by Gucci on Saturday 1st June in London. The goal of the concert was to put women’s and girls’ issues on the world stage. Proposed by Salma Hayek Pinault, Frida Giannini and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, the #ChimeForChange project aims at raising awareness on the pervasive violations of women’s and girls’ rights and to increase support for projects on the ground through the crowd funding platform Catapult dedicated to equality.
Education. Health. Justice. For every girl. Every woman. Everywhere.
Several personalities joined the concert and expressed their support: Madonna, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Freida Pinto and others alerted the audience on the situation of women and girls in the world: lack of access to education and health, sexist violence, poverty… “The human race is a bird with two wings. If one’s broken, we won’t fly”, said the American feminist Gloria Steinem.
The sound of change. Make some noise!
Several singers came to the concert and chimed for change!
Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Laura Pausini, Florence + The Machine, Haim… performed to support the project and spread messages about the need for things to change: “It is time for revolution”, “I want the empowerment of all women and girls”. Thanks to their commitment, 4 million dollars were raised for the projects promoting women’s and girls’ rights.

Women’s and girls’ rights are human rights; women and girls struggle for those rights everywhere in the world, also in Europe. The EWL has been working for 23 years on promoting women’s rights at European level and making sure that EU policies ensure equality between women and men.
