[Brussels, 27 May 2021] On 4-7 June 2021, EWL members will gather online for our annual General Assembly.
Our annual General Assembly brings together representatives from across EWL’s 48 full member organisations, five supporting members and staff from the EWL Secretariat in Brussels. It is an essential part of the democratic life of our network and a highlight of the year for many of us.
Delegates, observers and staff will meet online over two days of General Assembly on 5 and 6 June. On 4 June, the current EWL Board will also meet online for the last time before the organisation-wide elections taking place at the GA. The newly elected Board will then meet on 7 June for its first meeting.
At the General Assembly, EWL will present its report of activities since our last General Assembly. Members will discuss and approve our 2020 accounts, our 2022 budget and our work programme for next year. A number of emergency motions put forward by members will also be discussed and voted on. We will also discuss a review of our membership fee policy, hear back from members’ workshops held before the GA, and discuss the upcoming review of EWL’s statutes.
This year, the General Assembly will have two important tasks – to elect the new EWL Board of Administrators for the term 2021-2023 and to discuss EWL’s Strategic framework for 2021-2025. At the Board meeting on 7 June, the Board of EWL will then elect our new President and Executive Committee meetings for the term 2021 to 2023. The discussions held during this General Assembly will have a significant impact on the direction of EWL and will help guide our work in the coming years.
After a year that has affected the lives of all of us, our GA is a chance for our members and staff to discuss the disproportionate effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on women and girls. EWL members will reflect on the work achieved in the challenging months behind us and discuss ways forward in the midst of a backlash against women’s rights. We will also strategise about how we can mobilise together in the next year to have the greatest impact in advancing women’s and girls’ rights as part of our vision for a Feminist Europe.
With hopes of this being our last virtual General Assembly, we are looking forward to coming together again with our fellow feminists, in what we can only anticipate to be an inspiring and re-energising two days.
