EWL speaks out for the rights of women with disabilities
[Brussels, 03 July 2012] Cécile Gréboval, EWL Secretary General, was last week in Madrid for a series of meetings. On 28 June Ms. Gréboval represented the EWL at the International Women with Disabilities Conference, expressing strong international solidarity and backing for the cause of women with disabilities. The conference addressed issues related to the role of the United Nations, including the implementation of the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, violence against women with disabilities and the sexual rights of women with disabilities.
On the sidelines of the conference, Ms. Gréboval delivered a statement on behalf of the European Women’s Lobby at a civic event outside the Spanish Ministry of Justice condemning the forced sterilisation of women with disabilities.

While in Madrid, Ms. Gréboval also participated in a networking meeting with CELEM, the EWL Spanish Coordination on 29 June, where political discussions took place about the role of the European Union, the current political and economic situation of women in Spain and the big challenges for women’s rights at all levels. Olga Trostianski, president of the French Coordination of the EWL also participated in the meeting.
