Together, on our way into the European Parliament
[Brussels, 10 April 2014] The German member organisation of the European Women’s Lobby (EWL), the Deutscher Frauenrat, published this week an article on its website and in its magazine about the EWL’s European Political Mentoring Network.
The article describes the political mentoring programme and provides some personal impressions of two of the Mentee/Mentor pairs. The article includes interviews with the German MEP and leading Green candidate for the European elections, Ska Keller, and her mentee and Dutch candidate for the Greens, Güliz Tomruk, as well as the Slovenian MEP Mojca Kleva Kekuš and her Mentee Sanchia Alasia, Labour Party candidate for the London region for the European Parliament elections.
The insight that the article provides us with, shows that the relationship between Mentor and Mentee does not solely consist of professional and political questions. In addition to information on the functioning of the EU and the European Parliament, Mentors also shared private life experiences and discussed other pertinent issues, such as managing work-life balance. MEP Mojca Kleva Kekuš further underlined the importance of the interpersonal relationship dimension of the mentoring programme, and pointed out that “I found in my mentee a new friend”.
