WAGGGS launches surveys on the participation and empowerment of young women

[Brussels, 10 May 2011] “To enable girls and young women to realise their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world” is the mission of EWL member organisation the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). One aspect of fulfilling this mission is promoting the involvement of young women in all aspects of decision-making, not only inside Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting but also in other aspects of their lives.

Thanks to support from the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe, the Europe Region WAGGGS is developing a toolkit to examine these issues and the ways in which the participation of young women in decision-making can be supported, in both co-educational and single-sex environments.

To gather information for the toolkit, WAGGGS have developed two surveys:

  • A survey for to help identify how young women are involved in organisational life, how you address gender issues and the practical measures or tools you already use to ensure gender equality and participation of young women.
    Complete the survey here
  • A survey for young people to know the views of girls and young women on some of the issues which are most important to them and to understand what encourages and what prevents them from participating in their community, or if they are a member of an organisation, what would inspire them to become involved in its different decision-making structures.
    Complete the survey here

As the answers will contribute to the content of the toolkit, your support will be much appreciated. The deadline for completing both surveys is 30 June 2011. For further questions, please visit the WAGGGS website or contact rosemary@europe.wagggsworld.org.
