Women in politics - participation, decision-making and corruption
[Budapest, 9 May 2019]
The event to be co-organized by the Hungarian Women’s Lobby and Transparency International Hungary, will examine the relationship between the role of women in political decision-making and corruption in political life.
In Hungary, the representation of women in parliament and in government is one of the lowest in regional and EU-level comparison, while in Hungary the phenomenon of ’state capture’ is also present. In 2018 the Global Gender Gap report noted that Hungary was one of the lowest performing countries worldwide with regard to closing the political gender gap. Hungary has the lowest number of female members of parliament in the European Union: just 12 %.
