[Brussels, 13 July 2011] The European Network of Migrant Women (ENoMW) has been officially presented in Madrid on 4 July 2011. The presentation was organised by the Association of Professional Women for Integration and Equality (Spain) whose President, Elsa Saleme, is on ENoMW board. The meeting took place in the office of the European Commission and was attended by various groups such as migrant women, NGOs and experts, but also decision-makers. It benefited as well from the presence of two other members of ENoMW board, Suzanne Monkasa (Belgium) and Karima Ben Ahmed (France), who shared on this occasion their experience of working for migrant women’s rights at the local, national and European level and the clear added value of networking together. They emphasised the fact that the network is a platform to help create a meeting space for migrant women living in the European Union, but also to provide the tools to enable their further participation and socialisation. Many migrant women are facing discrimination, or are confronted with various structural obstacles. The network is therefore a way to address these issues and promote diversity and multiculturalism across the EU.
