[Brussels, 13 February 2014] In December 2013, the European Commission decided not to designate 2014 as the European Year for Reconciling Professional and Private life, despite calls by many MEPs and civil society organisations, including the European Women’s Lobby. However, the European Confederation of Family Organisations (COFACE) has decided to move ahead and work on the theme of reconciliation and to lead a NGO Alliance with the aim of drafting proposals for a European Reconciliation Package addressed to the new Commission and European Parliament later this year.
The first meeting of the Alliance will take place on 18 February at which the Reconciliation Package will be discussed. A Road Map “Towards the European Year for Reconciling Work and Family Life in 2014”, was drafted in 2013 and will serve as a basis for the future drafting of the Reconciliation Package.
