[Rome, 16 August 2021] The Italian coordination of the European Women’s Lobby is very concerned about the latest developments in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s seizure of power.
According to reports received by women’s NGOs and the press, Afghan women and girls have already started to become the first target of the Taliban’s violent actions. For them, there are no longer any escape routes.
This is why the Italian Coordination of the European Women’s Lobby has asked the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrel, to include the plight of Afghan women and the establishment of humanitarian corridors on the agenda of the extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers tomorrow afternoon.

Dalle notizie ricevute dalle Ong femminili e dalla stampa, le donne e le ragazze afghane hanno già iniziato a diventare il primo bersaglio delle azioni violente dei talebani. Per loro non ci sono più vie di fuga.
Per questo il Coordinamento italiano della Lobby europea delle donne ha chiesto all’Alto rappresentante dell’UE per gli affari esteri e la politica di sicurezza, Josep Borrel, di includere la condizione delle donne afghane e l’istituzione di corridoi umanitari nell’agenda della riunione straordinaria dei ministri degli esteri dell’UE convocata domani pomeriggio.
