General Assembly

100+ Feminists across Europe to come together for EWL’s 2020 General Assembly

[Brussels, 3 September 2020] Next week, 7-8 September, EWL members will come together for a Board meeting and our annual General Assembly.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the General Assembly will be held online for the first time. Over 100 feminist activists from across Europe will join the virtual general Assembly meeting on 8 September. Our annual General Assembly is an essential part of the democratic life of our network bringing together delegates and observers from across EWL’s 48 full member organisations as well as a number of observers from our Supporting members, alongside staff from the EWL Secretariat in Brussels. On 7 September there will also be an online meeting of the EWL Board.

EWL members will be invited to reflect on the collective work undertaken in the past year to advance the rights of women and girls in Europe within the context of a growing backlash and the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to disproportionately impact women and girls. We will also strategise about how we can mobilise together in the next year to have the greatest impact in advancing women’s and girls’ rights as part of our vision for a Feminist Europe. At the General Assembly, EWL will present its report of activities of the last 12 months. Members will then discuss and approve our 2019 accounts, our 2021 budget and our work programme for next year. A number of emergency motions put forward by members will also be discussed and voted on.

With the disappointing cancellation of EWL’s physical General Assembly meeting, initially scheduled for early July, we are looking forward to coming together again with our fellow feminists, in what we can only anticipate to be an inspiring and re-energising two days.
