[Brussels, 27 July 2017. Statement of the End FGM European Network] The United to END FGM (UEFGM) European Knowledge Platform is a free- of-charge online platform offering information and practical advice to professionals on female genital mutilation (FGM). The knowledge platform includes: an e-learning course available in 9 languages, country specific information covering 11 EU member states, as well as ‘live knowledge’ including webinars and an online discussion forum.
The e-learning course is designed to raise awareness of and improve knowledge about FGM amongst professionals from diverse sectors including: Health, Asylum, Law and Justice, Law Enforcement/Police, Education, Social and Child Protection, and the Media. The online course is also of use to NGOs, including women’s organizations and shelters offering support and protection to women and girls affected by FGM.
The e-learning course offers 13 modules in 9 languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish).
The knowledge platform also includes country specific information covering 11 EU member states most affected by FGM, available in English as well as in the national language/s. The country specific information covers country data, legal framework, policies, milestones and practices, advice and support, resources and national focal points, as well as international and European conventions.
UEFGM is the result of a transnational project funded by the EU and implemented by a consortium of 12 partner organizations and 4 associate organizations across the EU. The project aimed to design and develop a web-based knowledge platform on Female genital mutilation (FGM) that would provide easily accessible (and culturally appropriate) information and support to professionals to deliver victim support more effectively, help prevent FGM and protect women and girls living with or at risk of FGM, and serve as a resource and education center. More importantly, it seeks to improve the public and professional knowledge on FGM to better prevent and address this specific form of violence against women and girls as defined in the Council of Europe Convention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) has endorsed the UEFGM Knowledge Platform, an initiative where many EWL members are partners or supporters.
