Diversity - Never enough!
17-25 March - European Action Week Against Racism 2018
[Brussels 14 March 2018] The European Action Week Against Racism 2018 will take place from 17-25 March under the slogan "Diversity - never enough!". Every year, the platform UNITED coordinates this week-long Europe-wide campaign around 21 March to protest against all forms of racism and discrimination and to celebrate the diversity that enriches European societies.
This week calls on everyone to celebrate the cultural diversity of Europe - while racist and right-wing forces feed on our differences and want societies to be divided, we focus on what we have in common rather than what separates us. We join the European antiracist movement, that proves that diversity is beautiful and valuable, that there can be never enough of diversity!
You can join the campaign by organising activities, involving your city government, following the Facebook page and share its content, by supporting others, and spreading the message.
Join NGOs, civil society groups, grassroots associations, schools, universities and city governments all over Europe to prove that unity beats division, and that we stand UNITED against racism in all forms!
This year UNITED has five suggested activities that they encourage civil society organisations to organise to mark the action week:
- Movie night (you’ll find a list of movie ideas on the website!)
- Diversity Party (you’ll find a song list on the website and a United playlist on Spotify!)
- Walkathon/Bikeathon/Marathon
- Antiracist Picnic
- Human Library
Of course, you are also welcome to organise any other kinds of activities as part of the campaign, for inspiration, you can have a look at the list of best practice examples on the Week Against Racism website. UNITED has also prepared free downloadable materials (posters, Facebook covers) for you that can be found here. Feel free to use, print and adapt them for your own campaign activities. They campaign materials are now available in more than 21 languages thanks to the help of TEJO (World Esperanto Youth Organisation)! Visit the website to find translations of UNITED’s slogans, poster texts and the call for action, ready-to-print posters in EN, DE, NL, ES, FR, TR, RU as well as templates for creating posters in other languages.
Don’t hide it, provide it! Report your activities! UNITED can help you provide visibility for your events through an interactive map showcasing all activities of the Action Week Against Racism, and by sharing your events on its social media channels. UNITED for Intercultural Action
The campaign is coordinated by ’UNITED for Intercultural Action’ - the pan-European network against nationalism, racism, fascism and in support of migrants and refugees. Within the UNITED network more than 550 organisations from a wide variety of backgrounds, from 46 European countries, work together in common activities and projects.
